With the release of Tino’s highly anticipated tape, Past Due, its time to talk about this extremely enjoyable process of recording with TINO and give my review of the project. We handled the recording, mixing, and mastering at our recording studio.
Every song is completely different, so this is by no means the stone tablet rule on the process in which you should mix a song. Regardless of that, in every mix I do, there are a few things that I do every time.
The energy that you can find in a good recording studio with a professional team, warm environment, and creative vibe is definitely unmatched. Even those who arent artists can find enjoyment from being in the studio and watching creativity come to life.
What is the difference between mixing and mastering? You’ve just finished recording the next big hit and now its time for mixing and mastering. Most artists understand the concept of mixing and how it works. Most artists do NOT understand the concept of mastering or even what it is. But don’t feel bad, many recording or mixing engineers don’t even fully understand it.
Everything you hear is made from a combination of frequencies. Sounds bounces around and interacts with your environment in many ways before reaching your ear (or microphone). Some say that the best way to get a great natural mix is to make things recorded with a microphone sounds the same as they would naturally in a real acoustic setting. For this purpose we can use an Equalizer, or EQ, to manipulate those frequencies to sound more natural.
Compressors are usually used on almost every track in a mix session. Every compressor does the same thing in different ways, so once you learn one, you’ve learned them all. I’ll walk you through the basics of some of the settings that you will come across using various compressors.
Rizo and David are childhood friends who grew up together. After meeting at a summer math camp in the fourth grade, our friendship grew for years. We began hanging out at each others house regularly playing outside, playing video games, and then one day, playing music. David originally playing piano, and Rizo originally playing guitar.
What is going on right now??? Life is truly weird for everyone right now, and from the looks of it from the recording studio, it will continue to be weird for quite a while. We made the decision to temporarily cease operations in mid-March, and things were quiet at TDRS for a few months.
